Itinerary for the Secret New Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Day 1 – Cochapata Lodge, Waterfall & Tea Tour
On the morning of the first day, you will depart from Cusco in private transport, arriving in the quaint Sacred Valley village of Ollantaytambo to enjoy a tasty breakfast.
The road will then climb up, taking you through the breathtaking snow-capped peaks of Abra Malaga.
Here the road reaches an altitude of 3256 metres (10,682 ft).
This is the highest point of the day, as the lodge where you stay on the first night is much lower at 1650 metres (5413 ft).
You will arrive in the small town of Huyro in Huayopata in the afternoon.
Cochapata Lodge
The charming Cochapata Lodge is located just outside this quaint village, on a large plantation of banana trees, coffee bushes and idyllic green forest.
After a short break to settle into your room, lunch will be served.
Enjoy a delectable meal of dishes prepared fresh by the onsite chef in the lodge dining area, which overlooks the peaceful valley.
Waterfall of the Bear
Afterwards, there is a short hike up to the Catarata del Oso, or Waterfall of the Bear.
It is so-called due to a rock formation in the shape of the head of a bear behind the falls.
A hidden gem that will no doubt please the senses, this lovely waterfall also has a drop of 18 metres.
The short walk to the falls takes in lush, shady, temperate rainforest.
On all sides the dense vegetation is filled with coffee, tea and coca plants.
The jungle here is home to monkeys, butterflies and all manner of tropical animals.
Furthermore, you might even be able to spot the fiery red plumage of the elusive national bird of Peru, Gallito de las Rocas.
Tea production tour
Following the waterfall, you will visit a tea processing plant where there will be an opportunity to learn more about organic tea production in the area.

Day 2 – Ancient paths, ruins & mountain views
Eat a hearty breakfast at the lodge and be ready for your exciting packed itinerary ahead.
Following breakfast, you will depart for a one hour drive up to the trailhead.
Marvel at the gorgeous surroundings of rainforests, mountains and cloudless skies.
Walk an ancient Inca Trail
Your trek begins down into the valley along this ancient, secret new Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
The moderate-to-easy walk passes through temperate rainforest teeming with wildlife and hidden waterfalls.

Day 3 – Another exclusive trek & first views of Machu Picchu
